This thesis examines the life and legacy of Sayyidah Fatima bint Muhammad, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, to challenge prevailing misconceptions about female agency in Islamic societies, particularly within the Sunni tradition. Despite Fatima’s widely revered status, her life and contributions have often been overshadowed or misinterpreted, both by Western Orientalist scholarship and through the cultural practices of some Muslim societies.
