- The Church of Israel (Schell City, MO) and its pastor, Dan Gayman, are longtime bulwarks of the Christian Identity Movement, a fringe branch of Christianity which combines White racism and antisemitism with religion. In the case of the Church of Israel, it is believed that White Aryans are to be considered Israel, and that they are ontologically different in origins and nature from Jews and non-Whites. This paper explores the history and theology of Christian Identity and focuses on the concepts of identity fetishism and narrative construction to explore a core tenet of Christian Identity, religious self-racialization. Utilizing primary and secondary sources, the paper also analyzes the appeal and dangers of religious racialization of the Self and others. The topic of this paper seems prescient because of the current rise of White Christian Nationalism at work in the United States.
