Abstract

This paper explores the Manzumat tradition, a traditional Islamic educational strategy of memorizing foundational poems on various disciplines and complexities. It examines its compatibility with Western standards of critical engagement using the Taxonomy of Learning. The history, significance, pedagogical methods, and contemporary integrative potential of Manzumat will be defended and then explored as a source of inspiration for Western systems that stand to benefit from manzumat.
