While its long history has indeed shaped our identity as a nation, there are those who desire that it be reasserted as the dominant force in developing our 21st century character. White Christian nationalists (WCN) seek to influence national leaders in declaring that this is a \"Christian nation,\" putting their religion above all others. Indeed, they argue this has always been the case but have concerns about the ways in which the numbers of their group(s) are dwindling. Since at least the 1950s, membership in the nation's leading Protestant denomination has been in gradual decline while attendance at all the other mainstream churches is waning. As a result of immigration, for which WCNs blame the Jews, demographics are shifting to the point of having an impact on the composition of the electorate. White Christian nationalists no longer hold sway over most voters, a change that has occurred since the early 1990s, and as a result they have sought someone to blame. Anti-Semitism has long been a part of Christian church history where Jews have been blamed for such events as The Bubonic Plague, Germany's defeat in World War I and its result, the Weimar Republic. With the increase of immigrants from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America, WCNs have reacted against this expansion of the American Dream to anyone who is not white. And, who better to blame than the Jews who have reached out to humanity in efforts to \"repair the world\" by establishing organizations to help resettle refugees. Thus, the topic of this thesis is important today was WCN spreads and provides an opportunity to examine why white Christians believe they are superior to people of other races and religions and why they engage in acts of rhetorical and physical violence against those they believe deserve less. In fact, how can they believe themselves to be superior to any other group or individual if they believe in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth? This thesis will address these questions and more."],"rights_statement_tesim":["http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["1372584701"],"bibliographic_citation_tesim":["Jenrette, Jerra. \"Be Kind to Sojourners: Interconnections Between Anti-semitism, Anti-immigration and White Christian Nationalism Since 9/11.\" MA thesis, Chicago Theological Seminary, 2022"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/system/default_work_images/1/original/etd-icon_62058690__1_.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1778024149600436224,"timestamp":"2023-09-25T15:32:45.423Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-09-03T20:31:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T19:48:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a738b4b9-d3c6-4fae-a15f-5217662940a6","accessControl_ssim":["e84b92a1-4df4-4855-a56a-2e71ace3655a"],"depositor_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["Prophetic preaching for social justice in the context of the young Korean generation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-09-03T20:31:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T19:48:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8f9ba21a-c88d-481d-a007-037a5cf8daca"],"hasLease_ssim":["b29f6544-05b5-40b3-9fe7-5e296d0fe8a2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry in Preaching"],"discipline_tesim":["Preaching"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The author examines the relationship between traditional African American preaching styles and invitational preaching to determine the spiritual impact upon the members. Prominent findings indicate that invitational preaching is the preferred conduit within the rural congregation, particularly among older laypersons. Theoretically, behavioral changes are most prevalent from invitational preaching. Through qualitative research, this preaching style and sharing theological dialogues connect with the congregation significantly. Thus, invitational preaching in a rural community provides an authentic experience to embrace their commitment to Christian Discipleship and develop their Spiritual Growth."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["1372582853"],"bibliographic_citation_tesim":["Thomas, Curtis Lamont. \"Invitational Preaching: Preaching That Inspires Spiritual Growth in the Rural Congregation of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Freeman VA.\" DMin thesis, Chicago Theological Seminary, 2022."],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/system/default_work_images/1/original/etd-icon_62058690__1_.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["DMin Papers"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5fee7d74-6f58-4c88-a3b1-860b847dd7c2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836641680486301696,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T15:53:19.121Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-09-02T02:43:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-09T15:11:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Collection"],"id":"5fee7d74-6f58-4c88-a3b1-860b847dd7c2","accessControl_ssim":["8e15aa21-4d34-4393-aad5-efb12f81546c"],"depositor_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["DMin Papers"],"collection_type_gid_ssim":["gid://hyku/Hyrax::CollectionType/1"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Analysis of the Pauline adoption metaphor found in Romans, Galatians, and Ephesians was juxtaposed to the created theology of Harry and Bertha Holt, founders of Holt International. This research drew attention to the problematic ways Christian adoption has promoted colonization, patriarchy, classism, and multiple levels of oppression. The solution to this harmful understanding of adoption is to interpret Christian adoption through an alternative theology of open adoption. The application of Christian adoption to closed adoption is taken out of context and not applicable. Prospective parents who are inspired to adopt from a Christian context must understand the purpose is to expand family support for a child. In this way, the act of adopting is to grow the capacity for familial love to include both adoptive and birth families in the lives of adopted children. What an alternative theology of open adoption means for Christianity is embodying the practice of religious pluralism. This theology is more appropriate for our times because it reduces the dangers of dualism in understanding family and religious belonging.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["1372302294"],"bibliographic_citation_tesim":["Hudler, Haley. \"A Critique of the Christian Theology of Adoption: What Does It Mean to Expand Familial Love?\" MA thesis, Chicago Theological Seminary, 2022."],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/system/default_work_images/1/original/etd-icon_62058690__1_.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1778064124815605760,"timestamp":"2023-09-26T02:08:08.759Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Thesis","hits":41,"label":"Thesis"},{"value":"D.Min.
