First, it reviews the literature to investigate the role of Seerah in providing a framework for Muslims that can help them improve their personal, social, and ethical lives. Next, the research proposes various pedagogical approaches that can improve the teaching effectiveness and learning experience of the Prophetic Biography in contemporary contexts and settings. Moreover, the thesis supports a holistic approach to interdisciplinary learning by methodically addressing the various needs of different learners. The findings of the study suggest emphasizing the interconnected nature of integrating modern pedagogical methods, involving an interdisciplinary approach, and leveraging technology in teaching Prophetic Biography. This holistic approach can enhance educational practices, making the teachings more relevant, engaging, and accessible to a diverse and technology-driven student population. Offering a comprehensive and structured understanding of Seerah literature and incorporating an interdisciplinary (such as science, history, psychology, culture, languages, and relevant literature) perspective, such an approach can positively influence the discourse on Islamic education. Moreover, it carries a greater potential to provide students with a broad worldview, which can enhance their ability to apply the Prophet’s(PBUH) life in the current age."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/08b40569-b96e-4879-8e5c-7a97c62657ff?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["08b40569-b96e-4879-8e5c-7a97c62657ff"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["08b40569-b96e-4879-8e5c-7a97c62657ff"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasar.khan@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836652967000801280,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T18:52:42.780Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-04-23T15:38:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T18:50:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"130ad8c6-4b5f-480e-a0a7-840beed40aa2","accessControl_ssim":["e6533bbb-7219-47b5-9d93-fa4345d73abc"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["497b3e31-2bee-427a-9bd2-ab3fd7204aaf"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["497b3e31-2bee-427a-9bd2-ab3fd7204aaf"],"depositor_ssim":["hedaiah.aishat@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["hedaiah.aishat@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["The Influence of Islamic-Based Parenting Practices in the Contemporary West on the Social and Emotional Development of Children"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-04-23T15:38:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T18:50:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0e9192fa-cfce-42b9-bcba-542f0946fdcc"],"hasLease_ssim":["92ed1024-0032-4121-b550-459e77ef7efa"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["0"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["0"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Islamic Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"department_tesim":["Bayan Islamic Graduate School"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Aishat, Hedaiah"],"keyword_tesim":["Effective Parenting","Parent-child relations","Islamic Parenting","Effective Child-Rearing","Sunnah-based child-rearing","Parenting","Islamic Child-rearing","Islamic Parenting in modern west","Child-Rearing","Child-rearing strategies"],"subject_tesim":["Religious education","Parent and child--Religious aspects","Islam","Religion and science"],"abstract_tesim":["This research project examines how Islamic-based parenting strategies are employed in the contemporary West, with an emphasis on how they impact children’s social and emotional growth. The research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of effective parenting techniques at each developmental stage by integrating insights from psychological and evidence-based theories. The study provides insightful guidance for Muslim parents navigating the challenges of raising righteous and well-adjusted children in the modern West. Antiblackness, the inability to see Black humanity, is an undeveloped topic in Muslim spaces. In this thesis Black belonging is studied because despite Muslims having an identity construct that embraces all humanity, preliminary studies indicate that this construct is not actualized in Muslim schools. To understand this phenomenon and fill this research gap I conducted a mixed method study to understand alumni’s sense of belonging and what role antiblackness plays in their sense of belonging at U.S. Islamic schools. After describing the methodology, five themes are discussed: the deep sense belonging that Prophet Muhammad developed specifically around Black community members, the role antiblackness plays in and around us, the ease by which students use disparaging language around blackness, the inability to see Black American Muslim culture as a legitimate Muslim culture with history, norms, and traditions, and the importance of schools having an ummah embracing identity. The findings explored how hypervisibility and invisibility shaped how students experience school and their sense of belonging. Schellenberg assumes that belief in God is involuntary. I examine Schellenberg’s claims from the perspective of Kalām theology (Islamic Rational Theology). I argue that the God of theism is dissimilar to creation and must be understood using reason and revelation. I also argue that belief in God’s existence is not involuntary but based on knowledge.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/1a8aaf77-5eff-4127-938d-84f35ee1b862?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["1a8aaf77-5eff-4127-938d-84f35ee1b862"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["1a8aaf77-5eff-4127-938d-84f35ee1b862"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["irum.maharaj@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836652536958812160,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T18:45:52.660Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-04-23T01:02:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T16:21:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a69edb85-ba27-4318-a754-9ba287fad143","accessControl_ssim":["5f33ffa3-732d-4528-b1c3-1d788b04cd8e"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["bf161c36-c943-4b75-93fe-bd06da5c8372"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["bf161c36-c943-4b75-93fe-bd06da5c8372"],"depositor_ssim":["basmah.salam@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["basmah.salam@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["Adopting Muhammad: The Merciful Fiqh Behind a Renown Sunnah"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-04-23T01:02:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T16:21:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["20af5f4b-9f9f-49e7-818e-3c5bf8f1f813"],"hasLease_ssim":["9e73fb79-0844-41e8-a994-b0ec6b083e11"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Islamic Leadership"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"department_tesim":["Bayan Islamic Graduate School"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Salam, Basmah"],"subject_tesim":["Fiqh","Breastfeeding","Islam","Inheritance","Children","Islamic Jurisprudence","Adoption","Communal Obligations","Community","Kafala","Sunnah","Fard Kifaya","Family","Mahram","Parents","Muslim","Qur'an","Naming","Islamic law","Khalifa","Relationships"],"abstract_tesim":["Although a strong sunnah, or practice done, instructed, or approved of by Prophet Muhammad, Muslims grapple with ideas of adoption being prohibited and adoption fiqh details while shying from the communal obligation. This paper argues that prophetic preaching about economic justice can transform the community. In this context, I define prophetic preaching as speaking to or addressing the systemic barriers that have historically, culturally, politically, physically, mentally, spiritually, and economically, undervalued, underestimated, or marginalized people of African descent (in the United States) with the purpose of offering an analysis and critique for correction. This paper will address prophetic preaching with a lens towards an analysis and critique of what is required to preach prophetically concerning the economic barriers that prevent economic justice. Thus, prophetic preaching about economic justice to achieve economic justice requires three pillars to ultimately transform the community: 1) the preacher must have a growing knowledge of financial literacy: meaning an understanding of how the economy functions on a micro and macro level. 2) The preacher must advocate for progressive public policy in the context of a local, state, national and/or global economy. 3) Finally, the preacher must demonstrate the ability to utilize substantial financial resources to empower their ministerial context which optimistically includes the broader community. Ultimately, this paper argues that for preachers to develop sermons that centers issues of economic justice, the preacher must first begin by striving to be financially literate.
